Solar panels help your home generate clean electricity during the day, making it easier to power more of your everyday energy use with the sun. This can help reduce reliance on electricity from the grid while improving the value you get from your solar system over time. Whether you are installing a new system or upgrading an older one, the right solar panel setup can make a real difference to long-term performance. At SunPeople, our solar experts help homeowners and businesses choose solar panels that suit their property, energy needs, and future plans.
Is solar right for you?
When Does Solar Make Sense?
Solar makes sense for most Australian homes, but it makes the most sense when your household uses a reasonable amount of electricity during the day, when your roof has good sun exposure, and when you're paying retail electricity rates that make self-generated power more cost-effective than grid power.
You don't need a north-facing roof to benefit from solar. East and west-facing panels can work well for homes that use more energy in the mornings and evenings. SunPeople will assess your roof orientation, shading, and energy usage during a free on-site consultation to determine whether solar is a good fit, and how to get the best return from it.
Solar also makes sense if you're planning ahead. Even if your daytime usage is low now, adding a battery later lets you store daytime solar for evening use. And with the rise of EVs, heat pumps, and home electrification, your electricity needs are likely to increase, making the case for solar stronger over time.

When Should I Pair Solar With a Battery?
A battery is worth considering if you want to use more of your own solar energy after the sun goes down, if you want backup power during outages, or if your feed-in tariff is low and the economics of storing versus exporting favour self-consumption.
If you're installing solar for the first time, adding a battery at the same time can be more cost-effective than retrofitting later, because the system is designed as a unit and the installation is combined. That said, retrofitting a battery to an existing solar system is absolutely possible, and SunPeople does this regularly.
We offer a range of solar and battery packages designed to work together, or we can design a custom solution based on your energy usage and goals.
Things to know
What Should I Consider Before Going Solar?
Roof Condition
If your roof is due for replacement in the next few years, it's worth doing that first. Removing and reinstalling solar panels to re-roof adds cost and complexity.
Shading
Trees, neighbouring buildings, and roof structures can reduce panel output. SunPeople assesses shading during the site visit and designs around it.
Switchboard
Older switchboards may need an upgrade to safely support a solar system. We'll check this during the consultation and include it in the quote if needed.
Energy Usage
Understanding how much electricity you use, and when you use it, helps us design a system that delivers the best return. Your electricity bills are useful to have on hand.
How it works
Our Installation Process

05
Ongoing Support
If anything comes up after installation, our customer support team is here to help. We also offer system health checks and maintenance for long-term performance.
Looking after your system
Solar Panel Maintenance
Solar panels require very little maintenance, but they're not completely set-and-forget. Dirt, bird droppings, pollen, and leaf debris can reduce output over time. We recommend a professional clean every 12–24 months, and a full system health check every 2–3 years.
SunPeople offers maintenance and servicing for all solar systems, including systems we didn't originally install.

Reducing your upfront cost
Solar Rebates & Finance
Solar panel installations in NSW are eligible for Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs), which provide a significant upfront discount on your system cost. SunPeople handles the STC paperwork, the discount is already included in our pricing.
Additionally, the NSW Home Energy Saver program offers zero-interest loans for eligible households, which can be used towards solar panel installations.
