Electrify My Home
Move your home
off gas entirely
Home electrification means replacing every gas appliance in your home (hot water, heating, cooktop) with efficient electric alternatives, powered by rooftop solar. It's the most effective way to reduce your household energy costs, eliminate gas bills, and lower your home's carbon footprint. SunPeople helps Illawarra, South Coast, and Southern Highlands homeowners plan and complete the switch to all-electric living.

The case for switching
Why Go All-Electric?
Gas prices are rising, and gas appliances are becoming less economical compared to modern electric alternatives. A gas hot water system costs roughly 3–4 times more to run per year than a heat pump. A gas ducted heater costs more than a reverse-cycle air conditioner delivering the same warmth.

When you combine efficient electric appliances with rooftop solar, the savings compound: you're not just switching from gas to electricity, you're switching from gas to your own free solar energy.

Beyond cost, there are practical benefits: one less utility bill, no gas connection charge, improved safety (no gas leaks), and a home that's ready for the future of energy. All-electric homes with solar are increasingly sought after by buyers.

A staged approach
You Don't Have to Do It All at Once
Electrifying your home doesn't need to happen in a single project. Many homeowners approach it in stages, replacing each gas appliance as it reaches end-of-life or when the budget allows. SunPeople can help you create a plan that prioritises the upgrades with the highest return first.
01
Install Solar Panels
Generate the energy everything else will run on. Solar is the foundation, and everything downstream is cheaper when powered by your own rooftop energy.
02
Add a Heat Pump Hot Water System
Usually the biggest gas expense. STCs and the Home Energy Saver loan make this highly cost-effective.
03
Replace Gas Heating with Reverse-Cycle
When the heater needs replacing, upgrade to an efficient reverse-cycle system.
04
Add a Battery
Increase self-consumption and add backup capability when prices suit or energy needs increase.
05
Install an EV Charger
When you switch to an electric vehicle, charge it from your own solar, essentially for free.

Electrification Rebates & Incentives
Many electrification upgrades are covered by the NSW Home Energy Saver program, which offers zero-interest loans of up to $15,000 for eligible households. This can cover solar panels, batteries, heat pump hot water systems, reverse-cycle air conditioning, and switchboard upgrades, essentially most of what's needed for a full electrification. Individual components also attract STC rebates (solar panels and heat pumps), which provide an additional upfront discount.

Switchboard & Electrical Considerations
Moving from gas to electric increases your home's electrical demand. Your switchboard needs to handle additional circuits for a heat pump, air conditioning, EV charger, and potentially an induction cooktop, all on top of your existing loads and solar system.
